Hi, I am new to this list and am researching my Cumming family. In our family bible we have Walter Cumming b. December 24, 1829 Hawick married to Isabella Deans b.June 19, 1830, now my problem is I went to the LDS homepage and on the IGI they have two marriages for what appears to be the same people. Walter Cumming m Isabella Deans Aug 1 1852 in Wilton Roxbugh and Walter Cumming m Isabella Deans Aug 9 1852 in Hawick Roxburgh. >From what I have read, detailed records started 1855, and I can't find where I could send for these if someone could tell me where. My family records always had Walter born in Hawick and his father as being William Cumming b. March 1813 and mother Janet, I was hoping to find Walter's marriage cert so I could confirm who his mother is for I can't find a marriage reg for William with or without a wife Janet. From what I found on William, he was 16yrs 10 months old when Walter was born by IGI records, his parents names Robert Cumming and Marian Lillico match my family's records, but there seems to be a information jump between Robert and Walter in the IGI. I can't find any siblings for Walter and my family didn't record any. If anyone has any information on this family your help would be greatly appriecated Sandi

Hi Sandy & Pat: We have a Barbara Cumming in our family tree, birth c1801 Roxburgh Scotland died c 1852 enroute from Scotland to Canada. She was married 24 Jul 1825, Merton, Berwick, Scotland to Andrew Donald Saint Bossil's, Roxburgh Scotland . Immigrated to Arthur Township, Ont c1852. You mention the name Deans in your letters. Our other Scottish grandfather Geo. Murdoch and his sister Ann also immigrated the same year from Roxborough. Ann remained at Bright Ont and Geo. walked to Arthur Township Ont where he bought a hundred acres of bushland. While he was building his log cabin etc. he stayed with a Walter Deans, already settled here. (coincidence?) He later married Margaret Donald, who lived several miles north, daughter of Barbara Cumming & Andrew Donald, (another coincidence?) We have always supposed the families knew each other in Scotland.
