    3. Ted Sorry to pour cold water. There is a chance that you have the right person but only a small chance. Unless you have other evidence to suggest that your man was born in Southdean then just file it under 'possible'. You are dealing with a VERY common surname and two VERY common given names. Your Adam may just not appear on the IGI, either because the records didnt survive or because the family was not Church of Scotland. Many families werent. He may have had children who died and had other names. He and his wife may not have stuck to the naming pattern. I know it is hugely frustrating when you cant find relatives in the early 19thc because I have exactly the same problem. You say you have him in census records - what do they say about his birth place? If he lived until 1855 then his death cert should give his parents names. Sorry to be so negative. The IGI is incredibly useful but must be treated with caution.
