Hi Sandi, The double listing of "marriages" in the Scottish parochial records results primarily from the fact that they often are not records of the actual marriage, but rather records of the proclamation of the banns. In fact, many of these are part of the accounting records of the churches in question. So, if the couple were not from the same parish, there were at least two records, one in her parish, one in his, and for some parishes there are records of the actual marriage. All, some, or none of these records may have survived. Civil registration began in 1855. The marriage you reference was in 1852, so you will be stuck with the usually more limited information kept by the churches, often no more than the names of the couple. Good luck, Don Asquith
