Hi there, I was wondering if anyone else out there was researching the name Hume from Hawick in the 1800s, especially 3 generations all called Walter. Walter Hume b. 13/10/1819 Allanhaugh Mill, Hawick m. Margaret Scott their son Walter Hume b. 16/09/1867 Allanhaugh house, Hawick m. Christian Elliot their son Walter Nichol Hume b. 21/07/1901 16 Howegate, Hawick My great great grandfather, William Elliot, was Christian Elliot's brother. My grandmother remembers that the slightest mention of the name Walter Hume in their house caused arguments between her parents, but no one knows why. I am not even sure which one it was that caused the problems, although the 'middle' one seems to keep turning up in family records - living with the Elliots in census records before marrying into the family, as witness on certificates and even in wills. I am keen to find out anyone who has history of this family to see what may have caused the disagreement. If anyone has any ideas on how to track this down, I would be most grateful. Many thanks Clare
