I saw the recent postings concerning TURNBULLs in Roxburghshire. I have a connection to a TURNBULL family in Lilliesleaf. John TURNBULL (b. 1791) married Ann BOA (b. 1788), and they had one child born in Lilliesleaf (John, b. 1814) before emigrating to Montreal, Canada. John's sister Janet TURNBULL (b. 1795) married Ann's brother Robert BOA (b. 1796 in Holydean) and they too emigrated to Montreal. They apparently had two children born in Scotland before emigrating, but the baptismal records have not been found. Their youngest sister Helen TURNBULL (b. 1799) also emigrated, and married William GRAY in Montreal in 1820. Both TURNBULL-BOA families were in Canada by 1816. The parish registers of Lilliesleaf show the parents of John, Janet and Helen TURNBULL as John TURNBULL and Euphemia TURNBULL, and one family story suggests they were first cousins, but I have not succeeded in identifying the earlier generations. The registers show a family of ten for this couple, but I have not traced the other seven children. I believe the two TURNBULL-BOA marriages were likely in Lilliesleaf, as they do not appear in the OPR records available through the LDS, and marriage records for Lilliesleaf do not begin until 1817, at least in the LDS database. Does anyone belong to this TURNBULL family, or have additional information about them? My connection, incidentally, is through Robert BOA and Janet TURNBULL, who were my GGGgrandparents.
