    3. I am new to the list and just reporting my interests at this stage. Cochrane, Turnbull, Telfer, Smail, Sudden are some of the late 19th century names that are connected but Skeds have been in Roxburgh back to the 1600s, so I would be interested in hearing from anyone with a connection. The SKEDD family seemed to be associated with wool trades around Wilton and their connecting names include Hewit, Blacklock, Burns, they were knitters in Edinburgh in the 1700s and went not to Wilton in the 1800s. I would also be interested in info re the wool trade in those places. Grateful for any help. kind regards Marg O'Leary Port Stephens, NSW, Australia family history web sites http://nelsonbay.com/~mol/ http://www.familyhistory.nelsonbay.com/

    3. Hello Marg, Hope all is well in Australia. I am writing from Calgary, Canada. I have some Telfer forebears that seemed to have skipped frequently between Dumfriesshire and Roxburghshire. Perhaps one of them might be one that you share. John Telfer b. 1796 (whereabouts unknown) wife (no marriage found yet) Ann Elliot had the following children: William Telfer b. 1823 Langholm, Dumfriesshire (my forebear) Somerville Telfer b. 1825 Langholm, Dumfriesshire Helen Telfer b. 1828 (unsure where) Mary Telfer b. 1831 (unsure where) James Telfer b. 1837 Roxburghshire WIlliam Telfer (above) married Janet Elliot in Castleton on January 21, 1848. Janet was born in Castleton on February 14, 1821. Janet was previously married to Robert Pringle and had two daughters with him. They had the following children: Ann Telfer b. 1849 Castleton Robert E. Telfer b. 1851 Castleton John Telfer b. 1855 Kelso Elliot Telfer (female) b. 1858 Tinwald, Dumfriesshire Agnes Ann Telfer b. June 12, 1865 Tinwald, Dumfriesshire (my forebear) -- she married James Davidson in Glasgow in 1891 Somerville Telfer (above) married Mary Donaldson and they had several children--but all in Dumfriesshire except the youngest in Lanarkshire: John 1845, James 1847, Margaret 1849, David 1851 and Somerville 1859. Anyway, hope that I am not boring you. Let me know if anything rings a bell.
