Dear List, I am hopeful that SKS is familiar with the TELFER Family [TELFOORD, TELFORD] of 18th Century Southdean. My ggggf, William TELFORD, lived in Cumberland and married Mary BOOTHMAN at St Cuthberts, Carlisle, in 1797. However, I have been unable to locate reasonable Baptism Records for my William in Cumberland and believe that he might have been born in Scotland. My TELFORD line followed the naming pattern for many generations. I believe, therefore, that Williams' father was called James. As IGI lists very few William TELFORDs born about 1770, who were sons of James, I feel that chances are reasonably favorable for finding a connection. About 1730, a James TELFER s/o John was born in Jedburgh. James married Helen MIDLEMIST about 1760 in Southdean. IGI shows they had the following sons born in Southdean: John------1761 and 1763 Andrew--- 1761 Gilbert---- 1766 Robert---- 1770 William-----1773 Except for Robert, I feel that the Telfers emigrated from Southdean --possibly to Cumberland. I will appreciate any info on this family and any data on descendants. Thanks much. Robert Telford
