Have you tried writing/phoning Edinburgh Castle? It is a military museum and does hold some information on war dead. Unfortunately I can't lay my hands on the correct title and address at this moment (it is something as basic as The Castle, Royal Mile, Edinburgh) but I enquired there by letter re my ancestor Philip Clark who died in World War One and they sent me all the info they had on three separate Philip Clarks. I was able to identify mine and then, with his service number, I was able to get further information from the Commonwealth War Graves people. Everyone was very helpful.
