Kaims or Kames as they spell it now is not familiar to me but I would hazzard a guess that it is a corruption of Kain which is an old Gaelic word for a tithe, tax or tribute: whence Kain-children.     3. Roy I did not see the original email. FYI there is a farm just outside Hassendean Roxburghshire called Westerhouses Farm roughly 5 or 6 miles from Hawick.
