    1. [SCT-ROX] Duke of Roxburgh's Tailor
    2. The National Archives of Scotland have a good website where you can find a bit about what archives they have on the Roxburgh Estate - so you could take a look there before you may decide to visit Edinburgh. However, I suspect you may find lots of "loose bundles" of papers - i.e. all sorts of letters, bills and the like that would take an enormous amount of (possibly wasted) time to sift through. If you know (or suspect) where he was in 1841 you could try the census for more info (and the later decennial censuses)? I am searching for a Benjamin ROBERTSON (c1819 Scotland -late 1880s) who was a tailor and supposed to have been the tailor for the Duke of Roxburgh. He is also supposedly to have made the first pair of trousers for the Duke but this is all family lore. Eventually Benjamin and his family (wife unknown, son Robert and daughter Cecilia) settled in London in 1850-1860s. Benjamin is found in the 1881 census living (as a widower) with son Robert while Cecilia is married to Samuel Buston. I have contacted Floors Castle and they inform me that Roxburgh papers are held in the National Register of Archives (Scotland) but unfortunately living in Kent, these are not easily accessible. Can anyone give me some advice on how to proceed. ==== SCT-ROXBURGH Mailing List ==== Help us to improve this list by asking all your Roxburgh friends to subscribe to 'SCT-ROXBURGH' ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 Whilst this email has been checked for all known viruses, recipients should undertake their own virus checking as Xansa will not accept any liability whatsoever.
