I am new to the list and wondering how to proceed with the following information........... I am searching for a Benjamin ROBERTSON (c1819 Scotland -late 1880s) who was a tailor and supposed to have been the tailor for the Duke of Roxburgh. He is also supposedly to have made the first pair of trousers for the Duke but this is all family lore. Eventually Benjamin and his family (wife unknown, son Robert and daughter Cecilia) settled in London in 1850-1860s. Benjamin is found in the 1881 census living (as a widower) with son Robert while Cecilia is married to Samuel Buston. I have contacted Floors Castle and they inform me that Roxburgh papers are held in the National Register of Archives (Scotland) but unfortunately living in Kent, these are not easily accessible. Can anyone give me some advice on how to proceed.
