I am researching the Marshalls of Hawick who had a successful stonemason/building business in Hawick from 1849 - 1940 or there abouts. Originally John Marshall of Albion Place went into partnership with John Ballantyne who lived in Ladylaw Place, they built amongst other structures the Albert Bridge over Teviot at Sandbed. Later John's Son William went into business with his brother James from ca 1874 until ca 1900 and finally William's son James ran the business until 1940ish. I have quite a lot more information if anyone is interested.and have information on around 50 Marhalls with Hawick connections. Bill Morrison.
