    3. Roy- I came across some old notes that might be informative. I was trying to trace the travels of my ancestors from Quebec, CA to NY City. George [1728-1813] and Margaret [1725-1807] TELFORD were married in 1756 and journeyed from Castleton, SCT, in Liddlesdale, in May 1772 with 5 small children. They emigrated with their friends and neighbors, the BELLs and BLAKEs, by horseback along the riverbeds and pathways. I understand that 30 yrs later Sir Walter Scott first took a wheeled cart into Liddlesdale. After they reached the port of NY they traveled up the Hudson River and settled in the Salem [Washington Co] area. Their youngest son Francis died in 1773. They had two additional children born in NY. They led an interesting life during the Revolutionary War and Margaret got in trouble with fellow church goers when she was accused of being a witch. Tho' she was exonerated, many of her narrow- minded neighbors made her life miserable for many years. Roy, this is what happened! Robert Telford Melbourne, FL
