    2. Darlene Miller
    3. Hello new friends, I want to encourage people to keep researching the stonewalls. Our family had one for about twenty years. I have been persisting, and just a couple of months ago the wall was broken and I found Robert THOMPSON (Thomson, Tomson) born 20 Aug. 1722 in Bowden, Roxburgh, Scotland. He married Agnes ELLIOT (Eliott) of Selkirk, Scotland. Among their children were William, Robert, Andrew, George, Agnes, and Lucy all born in Bowden. All or part of the family emigrated to the United States. It is because of breaking that stonewall that I have joined this list. My husband is descended from Andrew. I am hoping to find ancestors of these two great grandparents. I am also hoping to find more family members doing research. We must just keep rooting..................Darlene Miller darrick@cox.net Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.

    2. Jan Hall
    3. Judy Hi There are 32 parishes within Roxburghshire which appear to be based on the larger towns in the county. (Roy can probably correct me if I'm wrong on this. As being in Australia I only work from maps) They are: Ancrum, Ashkirk, Bedrule, Bowden, Castleton, Cavers, Crailing, Eckford, Ednam, Hawick, Hobkirk, Hounam, Jedburgh, Kelso, Kirkton, Lilliesleaf, Linton, Makerstoun, Maxton, Melrose (which includes the quod sacra parish of Ladhope (the part of Galashiels the is Roxburghshire, other part in the County of Selkirkshire), Minto, Morebattle, Oxnam, Roxburgh, St Boswells, Smailholm, Southdean, Sprouston, Stitchel, Teviothead, Wilton and Yeltholm. One of the things with census is that boundaries change and you have Towns like Roberton which are included in the Selkirkshire county. Newcastleton is in the parish of Castleton. For any other towns within the parishes that are not listed above I suggest that you check out Genuki page for Roxburghshire at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/ROX/ Jan Hall ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Dawe" <dawejudy@charter.net> To: "Jan Hall" <jhall5@vtown.com.au>; <BORDER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 16, 2004 2:09 AM Subject: Re: [BORDER] Update of 1841 FreeCEN Scottish Census transcription project > Jan, thanks for the web site. 3. I agree!! Keep listing on mailing lists and checking websites to see who else is researching your names. I posted a message a few years ago on a message board and it was seen by two other researchers who were researching the same family. From thinking that we were the only DUMMA's on earth, I now have a database of over 500 family members and still counting. Not only did I find out a lot more about the family, but I have maintained contact and made new friends through this process. Don't give up. Shirley Denise & Rob Kurkowski <denrobk@msn.com> wrote: Sarah writes: "Keep the faith, girlfriend, and keep on contacting every website and message board you can. Make sure you put your last name on every site you contact, with alternate spellings! If you change your email address, contact them all again!" Please believe her! Keep posting, keep inquiring, don't give up. Every so often new postings make connections: Here's two great examples: a.. My husband's grandmother was orphaned in a rural area of northern Minnesota. We only have three pictures of her before age 9 and only two of her parents. Recently, I did another inquiry on this remote little township and found another lister with different family connections. Long story short, he had an original photo of grandmother and her parents (1912). a.. Through a posting, I have located a woman in the Netherlands who is a local historian. She has documented nearly all of the families who emigrated from a particular area in the Netherlands during 1860-1865. As luck may have it, the surname that I am researching is included in her files. She has given me her GEDCOM files for the entire branch. About 200 people! 3. Thanks for the pep talk Sarah. I know I'm not the only one out there when I run into 28 pages of LYLE on Ancestry.com. Plus there are the same number of genealogies listed including the one pertaining to my lineage. Guess I just get tired of bumping into the same old information. And if you don't post/share your work, you can't have weekends like I've just had. I've had my research at Rootsweb's WorldConnect (database name killearnan, in case anyone wants to check out my Border Littles, Keddies and Arthurs, all in the Galashiels/Innerleithen/Peebles area, and to help keep the post close to on-topic) for many months (about time for an update, I've found enough new) and no had contacted me.... until this past weekend when I got 4 different emails about four widely scattered lines. And then -- just *this* morning -- I got an email based on a query to a Rootsweb list I'd done 3.4 years ago. There are times that keeping the same email address is very handy. ;-) Three of these five contacts have put little windows in some of my brick walls (the other two were just to let me know that someone else is working on the same family, but one never knows what two minds and sets of eyes will find in the future that I wouldn't find alone, esp. as in both those cases, the person who contacted me lives near where your mutual ancestors did, so they have easier access to records than I do), so I'd say posting is quite reasonable, even if I occasionally get my own postings in a Google search.
