    3. I have a bit of a puzzle. Going over the http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/index. I found one of the family married in Glasgow 1897, she went to Australia about 1910 she re- married over there, on her marriage certificate she claims her husband as he deserted her xxyrs ago. I find her first husband died in 1945 in Glasgow, on his death certificate it has him down as still being married to her. Is it possible to find out if she divorced him in Australia before she re-married & would there be any documents sent over to Glasgow to her first husband. Bob

Due to the responses I have concluded that she was most probably the daughter of the 2nd Sir Gilbert of Minto and sister of the 3rd. Also, I should have mentioned that she married Robert Thompson. Thank you all again for your help. Darlene Miller

    3. Hi Judy, Perhaps what you describe is something of a local, even Border trait. To this day and much to the annoyance of my wife, family, friends and acquaintanes I will never, ever, accept the 'obvious' explanation for anything. My grand-mother used to say it was the old 'Reiver' way. It is well documented that they could talk their way out of most things, note famously 'Johnnie Armstrong o' Gilnockie'. Regards Roy P.S. I couldn't stand physics either. :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Dawe" <dawejudy@charter.net> To: <SCT-ROXBURGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 13, 2004 9:19 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ROX] RELATIONSHIPS. > Thanks, BJ, and all the other who have aided in my understand of > Relationships. 3. Darlene According to "The Elliot - the story of a border clan" Sir Gilbert Elliot of Minto, 3rd baronet, married Agnes Dalrymple-Murray-Kynynmound 14 Dec 1746 (pp146-148). Named female children of this couple are Isabella, died unmarried, Eleanor born 1757 who married William Eden. There were also 6 sons. No Agnes marrying a Robert Thompson. The book says there were six sons and 2 daughters. I'm a VERY visual person; I need to see the picture. I've saved all of the URL's that I've received and am building a file of them. I had the same problem when I took physics.
