Hello Jeffery. As yet I have not made any connection with a Janet Elliot of 1821 but I do have the 1851 Census for Castleton Parish and the nearest in age for Janet is the following:- Newcastleton-Head. James Elliot Unmarried age 35yrs, Mother Margaret Elliot, age 71yrs, Widowed, Sister Janet Elliot age 28yrs, Unmarried. Niece Margaret Nichol age 3yrs. I will give you what Elliots I have that are my ancestors if you wish. Kind regards Carmel

Sorry I missed the early part of this interaction. What line of Elliots are we talking about. I have done a great deal of work on many of the families over the years. My line is actually of Ninian of "Riccarton" but I am interested in the family Alison in Calgary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carmel Jones" <carmelitaj@eircom.net> To: <SCT-ROXBURGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 5:31 AM Subject: Re: [SCT-ROX] ROXBURGH NAMES LIST -- Elliot > Hello Jeffery. > As yet I have not made any connection with a Janet Elliot of 1821 but I do > have the 1851 Census for Castleton Parish and the nearest in age for Janet > is the following:- > Newcastleton-Head. I also have a Vietch. They settled in Ontario before 1850 and were from Scotland. My ancestor is Walter Vietch who married Jemima Young born 1812. I have not been able to track them down in Scotland yet.
I am doing my husband, John Hunter's, family tree and I note that on his mother's side, a few generations back, there were Neill and Veitch. I have been attempting to do my husband, John Hunter's, family tree. When I go back a few generations on his mother (Ellen Bell) side, I find an Isabella Veitch. She married James Neill. However they were more Glasgow people, the Neills. William Veitch was Isabella's father. Could be Isabella had siblings, who would be connected. However, I don't really know of any of them coming to Canada. Hi Alex and everyone. Sorry if this is repeat message, but somehow the other one I just sent got sent to myself and not the list. Don't know what I did. ANDERSON isn't my direct line, but I'm hoping to make contact with an ANDERSON with connections to the SINCLAIRS. I have a Janet SINCLAIR born 1780 in Earlston who married John ANDERSON in 1803 in Kelso. They had John, George, Christian, Margaret, William, Janet and Finlay Duncan. I know Christian ended up in East Lothian and married a James ALLEN. Don't know what happened to the others. Anyone recognize these ANDERSONs. Trish
Hi All, Could I ask each of you to send to the list a note of the families, in as much detail as possible, in which you are particularly interested. ( Note: And don't forget all those orphans you've gathered through the unpursued lines of spouses) along with an indication of the locality and approximate date along with your e-mail address and name. Please send the information in the following format. Family; locality; time period; yr e-mail address; your name e.g. Hardie -Castleton -19th Century- roygraham@perkins9617.freeserve.co.uk -Roy Perkins If you can send the basic information in this format it will save me a huge amount of time but please feel free to add whatever additional information you might have as doing this will save you a huge amount of time as I intend making further changes over the coming year to make the list still more comprehensive. Could I ask everyone to resubmit their information in this new format so as to keep the list up to date. NOTE 1: If you have sent me updates since the Lughnasa edition in August these will not have been acted upon so please resubmit them. NOTE 2: A copy of the Lughnasa list can be found in the archives on 22nd August 2004, if you're happy with your listing as it is you need do nothing. If you've changes your e-mail address please just let me know. NOTE 3: FOR NEW MEMBERS. The idea is to put like minded individuals in touch and hence speed up your research, hopefully. Please let us have your names as described above. NOTE 4: In future e-mail addresses will not be published in the list for security reasons but the name of the list to which you are subscribed will.> > But, I will keep records and the unique numbers on the left can be used to access them, within reason. As usual my thanks to you all in anticipation of your help and co-operation. Regards Roy Listowner.
I noticed an Andrew Dumma married a Mary Sinton in your family. As several of the possible marriage certificates for my Mary Sinton were not available on Scotlandspeople when I last subscribed, I'd like to know more about this family link. It could be one of mine. I have Elizabeth Waugh (father Robert) m Adam Sinton in 1840 in Cavers but there were several Mary Sinton's in other branches. I have not got spouses for any of them yet.
