    1. Belfast Scotland?
    2. Pam Hawkins
    3. I have my Great Grandfathers birth certificate from District of Ladhope, County of Roxburgh. It states that his parents were John Paterson and Agnes (shiels) Paterson and that they were married August 12th, Belfast. I have not been able to find a marriage record of them in Belfast, Ireland. I am wondering if there is a Belfast in Scotland I should be checking. Can anyone answer this for me. Thanks. Pam

    3. HELP Does anyone have access to the parish records for Castleton ? I wish to double check an entry for the birth of ESTHER ELLIOT daughter of JOHN ELLIOT & JANET ROBSON. In the IGI there are 2 entries for her birth at Blackburnfoot, 1 entry for Castleton and 1 entry for Roan. When transcribing the parish records I put down Roan as place of birth but may have made an error. The first 2 children were born at Blackburnfoot, and the youngest at Cavers so they could have been on the move ? THE ORIGINAL MUST BE CHECKED. I have family charts from Canadian family and they also have Roan as place of birth but this could just be an error compounded ! I sent a basic line to the Ancestoral file and due to their computer programme they have Ninian Elliot as born at Shaws (he died there) and a number of errors. So as everyone knows CHECK THE ORIGINAL I WOULD BE SO VERY GRATEFUL FOR ANY HELP Alison

    2. Thanks for replying to my Monumental Inscriptions. I did find a death of James AITKIN through the Scotlands people, i think this could be him. Just thought someone could have had the monumental inscription before i sent the £10 for the certificate to make sure. It is held at the Marine Register so it looks like he was lost at sea. I did ask what Marine Register meant, a few days ago, and got a couple of answers explaining it. Going to have to get an extension in this mind of mine to store it all. Any way made my mind up to send for it, just hope it is the right one. Thanks again for all your help. George

    3. Further to some of the earlier answers, MIs for Hawick do exist as published in the Transactions of the Hawick Archaeological Society of some years ago, which you can find at some of the larger libraries. They have Hawick inscriptions for: St. Mary's Churchyard: 1935-1938, 1940 (index to names) Wellogate Cemetery (Heritor's Area): 1942-44, 1946-48, 1950, 1952 (index to names) Wilton Old Churchyard: 1937-39 (1939 includes index to names) I personally have most of the transcriptions for the 1950s and 1960s if this is any help - unfortunately I don't have the earlier ones. Hope this may be of some help, Graham Maxwell Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfriesshire

    2. JOHN STEVENSON
    3. Good morning, Have been watching the number of enquiries re Monumental Inscriptions posted lately on a number of Lists. One should remember M.I. records do not provide anywhere like a full list of those buried in a particular churchyard. In many cases OPR's contain "Burial Records" and give a much more accurate list of those who have died in a particular parish. I.E. North Leith ,Edinburgh. 87 MI's in the publication 235 in OPR Burial Records. So many stones have been broken or disappeared or never existed in the first place. I spend a considerable time checking OPR's Burial Records looking for seamen and their families , with a great deal of success. Regards. John John D. Stevenson, Trinity Research Services, Scottish Maritime History Research. Edinburgh.

I have a William Amos born somewhere between 1791 and 1802 (thought it was 1802 then death certificate with age makes it more 1791) I think to a Walter Amos and Jane Elliott. Don't know if that is the same section or not.
