I read with interest about the Linton Worm the story so much like our own The Lammton Worm I thought I let you all read it I have one confession to make it is in Geordie dialect I haope you enjoy Bob The Lambton Worm Written by C.M.Leumane One Sunday mornin' Lambton went a-fishing in the Wear; An' catched a fish upon he's heuk He thowt leuk't vary queer. But whatt'n a kind ov fish it was young Lambton cuddent tell- He waddn't fash te carry'd hyem, So he hoyed it in a well Chorus Whisht! lads, haad yor gobs, An' aa'll tell ye aall an aaful story, Whisht! lads, haad yor gobs, An' Aa'll tel ye 'boot the worm. Noo Lambton felt inclined te gan An' fight i' foreign wars. He joined a troop ov Knights that cared For nowther woonds nor scars, An' 'off he went te Palestine Where queer things him befel, An varry seun forgat aboot The queer worm i' the well. But the worm got fat an' growed an' growed, An' growed an aaful suze; He'd greet big teeth, a greet big gob, An greet big goggle eyes. An' when at neets he craaled aboot Te pick up bits o' news, If he felt dry upon the road, He milked a dozen coos. This feorful worm would often feed On caalves an' lambs an' sheep, aN' swally little bairns alive When they laid doon te sleep. An when he'd eaten aall he cud An' he had had he's fill, He craaled away an' lapped he's tail Ten times roond Pensher Hill. The news ov this myest aaful worm An' his queer gannins on Seun crossed the seas, gat te the ears Ov brave an' bowld Sor John. So hyem he cam an' catched the beast An' cut 'im in twe haalves, An' that seun stooped hes eatin' bairns An' sheep an' lambs an' caalves. So noo ye knaa hoo aall the foaks On byeth sides ov the Wear Lost lots o' sheep an' lots o' sleep An leeved i' mortal feor. So let's hev one te brave Sor John That kept the bairns frae harm, Saved coos an' calves by myekin' haalves O' the famis Lambton Worm. http://www.scottish-border.co.uk/linton2.htm

Hi I have recently come back from a holiday where I stayed in Byrness near Otterburn. The family I stayed with had a book that I would love to find a copy of but it is out of print now. Despite hunting high and low for it whilst I was there I couldn't find a copy to buy. It is called the Story of Redesdale by Beryl Charlton. It was published in 1998 by the Northumberland National Park Authority and the ISBN is 0907632157. It is only a slim paperback but very informative. If anyone can help me locate a copy I would be extremely grateful. Cheers Lesley --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). http://www.scottish-border.co.uk/linton2.htm a contact at Morebattle, nearby http://www.morebattle.bordernet.co.uk/contact.html Please, would someone help me with an address? I would like to find a mailing address for the current pastor at the Linton church in Roxburgh. He may know of a person in the area who could provide me with additional information about my ancestors. Last month I visited the beautiful area in Melrose & vicinity. One day I went to Linton Kirk and churchyard where I searched for ancestors buried there with the surname Hope & Turnbull. Unfortunately I didn't find their stones as listed in Hounam & Linton MI's but I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this lovely place. Hi All, Sorry, sorry, sorry. But because of some glitches, things are not going according to plan. That, coupled with an excessive current personal workload means your replies and questions are not being answered. I do apologise but hopefully all will be resolved within 48 hours. Regards Roy
