They had Isobel b. 1754, Kelso Janet b. 1756 Kelso Elizabeth b. 1768 Kelso Mary b. 1773 Kelso There are probably more children but these are all I've got. Mary GRAY b. 1773 buried at Kelso Old Parish Church Cemetery, Kelso (found in Mon. Inscrip of Kelso) m. William RUTHERFORD b. 1772 in Roxburghshire buried Lawrence Cemetery, Clarke Twp, Ontario, Canada. Hello Roy, All I have done so far with the line of George Armstrong (born 1803) is look at census and birth and death information online for him and as many of his children as I can follow. George Armstrong (son of the above George and born in 1851) was residing at Langburnshiels at the time of the 1891 census with his wife Annie Jane (Cowan) and their children :- George age 13 Francis age 6 William age 3 Jane age 10 interestingly they are living next door to another Cowan family possibly her elder brother and his wife. I've been prompted by the recent list, showing some familiar Roxburgh surnames, to re-post my interests in the Roxburgh area. Adam HARDIE (1786 - 1859), though born in Greenlaw in Berwickshire, spent most of his working life as a blacksmith in Orange Lane in Eccles, then in Stitchill. He married Mary HUNTLEY from Berwickshire, and the couple had ten children, all but one emigrating to the USA. We have pretty good knowledge of the 664 (!) descendants of Adam and Mary, but there are gaps in our information about the descendants of their daughter Mary HARDIE (1819 - 1895). Mary married a game-keeper called Alexander TELFER, and the couple lived in Eckford, where they had five sons and a daughter. Several of those children moved to England, particularly the Leeds and Newcastle area, and we have not been able to trace all of them. If anyone is interested in this family, I can pass on a lot more detail. I believe that Adam HARDIE had some brothers, probably Robert and James but do not know much about them. I would welcome contact with any others researching these people. Mary HUNTLEY had a sister Elizabeth who married Charles GRAY (1797 - 1879), and the couple died in Stitchell, having had at least nine children(1803 - 1884). Is anyone researching this GRAY family? Have you tried writing/phoning Edinburgh Castle? It is a military museum and does hold some information on war dead. Unfortunately I can't lay my hands on the correct title and address at this moment (it is something as basic as The Castle, Royal Mile, Edinburgh) but I enquired there by letter re my ancestor Philip Clark who died in World War One and they sent me all the info they had on three separate Philip Clarks. I was able to identify mine and then, with his service number, I was able to get further information from the Commonwealth War Graves people. Everyone was very helpful. Thanks, Roy for the info about Minto Kaims. What does Kaims mean? Do you know what would have been there in Minto Kaims in 1895? My grandmother (GARDNER) was born there in 1895 and her father was a ploughman. A year or so later he became Farm Steward at the Earl of Minto's farm, which ??? is apparently in the area.
