    3. Hello, I am not sure if I read the entire thread. I am also not sure if my thinking is correct, but I understand that the IGI was created with submissions by churchmembers and then progressed to extractions which then were added to the index after templework had been done. I now understand that this is not the process and extracted (but unindexed) events are now made available through cds such as the BVRI. It is also my understanding that earlier IGI (such as the fiche pre the days of computer cds) actually contained events that were dropped from the later resource. It is also my understanding that many records were never allowed to be filmed by the Mormon Church. I understand for example that many Suffolk, England bishops would not approve. I wonder about Wales and I am unsure also regarding Scotland. I do know that I fully appreciate every effort by Salt Lake to provide access to the records of the world. What a tremendous undertaking and all their resources are very reasonably priced at a time when countries are now getting into the business of genealogy. As long as we continue to have choices, I will continue seeking and recording my family history. Please advise if my understandings miss the mark of truth. Lois
