    1. Re: [Renfrew] 1841 and 1851 Census - Gemmell
    2. Yes, we went to Scotland and were able to find and meet "living" relatives! They didn't know they had family in the States and my mom didn't know that she had living relatives in Scotland. Thought they had all died. Did get alot of info on my mom's side of the family - Young. Unfortunately, we are at a standstill on the Gemmell side. Have info on my g-grandfather, but do not have his siblings names, etc. Same with my g-grandmother. Her name was Maria Vance, b. 1865 in Antrim, Ireland. Can't find any info on her either. The biggest area of concern is of my grandfather's youngest brother. His name was Alexander, also, born either 1900 or 1901 in Greenock, Scotland. Can't find anything on him at all. The story goes that my g-grandmother, Maria, left my g-grandfather when she became pregnant. Do not know if the boy was actually born in Scotland or in Ireland. She may have left for her homeland. Any help you or anyone else can provide is greatly appreciated! Thank you! Sherrie Brown

    2. MARLENE M STIRLING
    3. I see you are researching the Gemmell family and so am I. I'm trying to find information on a David Gemmell who married Agnes Stirling. Agnes name was really Elizabeth. They were married in Buffalo, New York and then they were in Murphysboro, Tenn. Then in Wyoming, then they moved to Idaho and then moved to Riverside, California. I'm not at home but I think they married in 1902. They had four children. Could you tell me more about your Gemmell. David was a farmer and sheep herder. I do not know anything on where David was born. I don't even know where he died. I have been told by family members two stories. That he died of a heart attack on a train going to market with livestock. Then another family member said they thought he died tring to save his livestock in a blizzard and froze to death. I have found his familly in California buried in Roosevelt cemetery but he is not there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RIVERRD@aol.com> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2003 4:51 PM Subject: Re: [Renfrew] 1841 and 1851 Census - Gemmell > Yes, we went to Scotland and were able to find and meet "living" relatives! > They didn't know they had family in the States and my mom didn't know that she > had living relatives in Scotland.
