I've been searching for the birth of my Archibald HOUSTON who claims to come from Paisley. I found his parents' announcement of marriage bans in the "early church records" of Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch. Colin HOUSTON was born in Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland. He married MARY SMITH March 22, 1828 in She was born in Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Scotland. Colin was a weaver. According to censuses, Archibald's birthdate is variously between 1836 and 1841. On his wedding registration in 1871, he says he is 35 which puts his birth year at 1836. I cannot find a record of his birth in all the church records of Paisley, but found on his wedding registration that he belonged to the Free Church, which may be why I can't find him... his parents could have been part of the break-away, too. In the 1851 census he would be between 10 and 14 years old, then. There may be other children, but I haven't found them either. So, if you see a Colin and Mary HOUSTON with a child Archibald about that age, it would certainly be appreciated. Judy Miller in sunny Arizona
