Father John Webb, poulterer, is listed in post office directories 1834 and 1841 as at 51 Shaw St. In 1841 Scottish Census, there is one John Webb, aged 40, (so born around 1800) a ``general dealer'' in Shaw Street. Under ``whether foreign or whether born in England or Ireland," it has I for Ireland. James' mother may have been named Susan. James Webb migrated to Australia 1853 or earlier.
