    1. [Renfrew] OPR MARRIAGE RECORD
    2. Could SKS please tell me what information will be on an OPR marriage record? John McKellar married Elizabeth Gibb on Oct. 4, 1829 in High Church Paisley. I found John's death record July 26, 1873 which told me that his father was James McKellar and his mother was (no first name) Robertson. I have been unable to find this recorded at all and I'm wondering if the name Robertson is completely wrong or perhaps James married twice. I thought that if I ordered John's marriage, perhaps his parents names would be on the certificate. Any leads would be appreciated, Eva

    3. Hi Eva The only thing extra on the one I recently sent for was the parish where the two people came from. Everything else I could get from the Scottish People website for £6 for 30 pages rather than £10 per copy of opr. Not exactly a cheap way of finding out - but at least it gave me a possible parish for their birth. 3. Hi Eva, The early marriage entries vary. It isn't a certificate but a few lines in the Parish Register. Usually this is the proclamation of banns, sometimes followed by an indication that the marriage took place. The least you get are the names of the couple and the date. At best you also get the groom's occupation; his father with occupation; the bride's father's name and his occupation; an address and names (and sometimes relationships and addresses) of the witnesses. I haven't seen ages recorded or mothers' names but you may be lucky. If either party are widowed it may say so too. The address is important as you may find the family on the, as yet unindexed, 1841 census which will have rough ages, and from there you can often find the baptism record. You'll be pleased to know that his mother's name will be on his baptism record. Hope this helps, Jane ----- Original Message ----- From: <Gordevadiva@aol.com> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 25, 2003 8:26 PM Subject: [Renfrew] OPR MARRIAGE RECORD > Could SKS please tell me what information will be on an OPR marriage record? > John McKellar married Elizabeth Gibb on Oct. 4, 1829 in High Church Paisley. > I found John's death record July 26, 1873 which told me that his father was > James McKellar and his mother was (no first name) Robertson. 3. I obtained a copy of the 1861 marriage record for my gr grandparents through the LDS Church because they had filmed the parish records. The cost was relatively low, $2.00 U.S., I believe. It is a photocopy of the entry from the parish, more complete than the copies I receive from the GRO in England (possibly more information was listed in Scotland at the time) except it is on plain paper and not on a certificate copy. Details are as follows: Bride and groom's names, ages, addresses, both parents' names, as well as the maiden names of their mothers (this was information I did not have previously, so most helpful),father's occupations and witness' names. It also listed both sets of parents as deceased. They were married in the West Parish of Greenock, County of Renfrew April 1861. Hope this information is helpful. Regards, Nina Hart, Langley, B.C.
