    3. Juanita, The Renfrewshire 1851 Census Index is an every person index, children aged 1 or less will be listed as 1 year old. Some women continued to use their maiden surnames, even in the census, her choice or depended on who gave the information. As to the death certificate, she will be listed with her current married name or name she was using at them time. In the index, she should be under the name given in the death entry and by her maiden surname, case of cross-indexing. If the informant knew, then all husband's names will be listed. They may not be correct, but his name and occupation should be listed. In the case of my ggg-grandfather, all three of his wives were given, with their forename and maiden surname. The 2nd and 3rd wives had been previously married, their 1st husband's were recorded as well. In one case, the first name of the 1st husband was given incorrectly, took me a few years of searching, but finally found out he was a George, not a William. Hope that made sense, as it is late and I am on the tired side. Julie Dufault Juanita asked- > Julie, how is the 1851 census indexed - by name of entire family or just head > of family? Also do you ( or anyone) know how the name of a woman who had been > married twice woould be listed? For example would she be mrs Elizabeth > Young(1sthusband)Campbell(2nd husband). or just Elizabeth Campbell? Also > would the death certificate of this person use both names or perhaps even > include her maiden name? Would appreciate ANY help from anyone. Many thanks! >
