Hi Julie, I've waited a little in the hope that the rush to take up your generous offer will have died down a bit. If you are not already sick of doing lookups, I'd be grateful for any information you can turn up on the PATON and BARR families in the town of Johnstone (this is in the parish of Abbey, Paisley) for 1841 and 1851. My g.g.grandparents Archibald PATON and Margaret BARR were married at Abbey (Paisley) in 1841, but I've had some difficulty gleaning any other information about them. I'm hoping you can find them and that any other information you can supply on PATON and BARR families in the area will help me to tie them in. Many thanks in advance, Jim in stormy Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken & Julie Dufault" <kjathome@aspi.net> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 12, 2003 2:11 AM Subject: Re: [Renfrew] 1841 and 1851 Census > Chris, > > The 1841 and 1851 census is not on CD. Jim, Two people on my tree were given middle names of Barr and Paton in that order. The Paton is explicable as the birth surname of their father, he was Robert Paton later Robert Paton Kerr as he was brought up by his Kerr grandparents and aunt, in Paisley I have not yet found a Barr connection. I am satisfied it is not in the direct line back from the family, but an important side link. Could it be the one you are researching? Hi Moira, I don't think I know enough about these ancestors (mine or yours) to make any useful statement at this stage. Do you have anything further on your's? I do know that PATON was a very common name in the Paisley area (eg the cotton spinning company of that name). I'm hoping Julie's lookups for the 1851 Census will shed a bit more light.
