My hubby is named John and goes by Jock; his grandfather was from Greenock. When we visited there, however, we were told it was slang for a Scottish man. My hubby also had an uncle named Thomas who was from Scotland but lived in Venezuela. Because he was from Scotland, he too was dubbed "Jock," a name which stuck the rest of his life, even after he moved back to Scotland. Sue McLean
