    1. [Renfrew] Goldie/Gourlay
    2. HI Heather, I have the same problem with the same names! Tring to search for my MCGOLDRICK family has been a nightmare as they were known as McGoldrick now, and in the 1861 Census but in the 1891 census they were known as GOLDIE and I couldn't find them in the 1881 census at all despite looking up loads of variations - I eventually got then (this week) by looking up MCGOURLAY, and there they were in the 1881 census. I have only found some of the (large) family birth details as I think they seemed to cange the name depending on what the registrar "thought" he heard! They were back to McGoldrick by 1901 census! I have recorded them as McGOLDRICK but entered the spelling anomalies as they were recorded on my genealogy programme/paper records. It should be able to cope with the variations. My family were in the Coatbridge/Old Monkland (LANARKSHIRE) mostly but just in case they may be a connection to yours - I have: WILLIAM MCGOLDRICK born approx 1838? in Ireland married to Roseanne Clifford in 1860. Williams parents were said to be OWEN MCGOLDRICK and BRIDGET GALLOGHER William and Roseann MCGOLDRICK (and variations!) had at least 10 children: William John born 1860 Margaret b approx 1863 Patrick born approx 1866 Francis born approx 1867 Isabella born 1/2/1868 Andrew born app 1870 James born 1/10/1873 Thomas born approx 1879 Michael born approx 1881 Bridget born approx 1886 take care Mary Heather wrote------------------------------- X-Message: #3 Date: Tue, 22 Jul 2003 16:17:17 -0500 From: "Heather Fromme" <fromme@marshlake.polarcom.com> To: SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <023b01c35096$a21caa90$e59ef7c7@Heather> Subject: [Renfrew] Confused Content-Type: text/plain;     charset="iso-8859-1" Hello I need some assistance please. What do you do when you have one name and you get back far enough and the spelling is different but you are sure it is the correct family.. I have James GOLDIE and on his death cert. his parent names are given as GOLDIE but when I located their marriage it is spelled GOURLAY. I know it is the correct person because of James wife's death record..all same info.. Do I list it with two spellings or what???
