I have been researching a John Caldwell born in Paisley on December 26, 1844. His birth does not appear in the OPRs nor the Kirk Records that are available. I have found him in the 1861 census listed with the family of his mother's remarriage. She married a James McAlpine in 1847. From that census John's mother, Elizabeth Stewart, would have been 16 years old when John was born. Is there another avenue I may explore to find this birth? His father is suppose to be named John Caldwell also. If this is illegitimate, would young John carry the name of his father? If a professional researcher can help here, does anyone have a recommendation? Dottie In Sunny Florida
