He died in 1903 when he fell from a building he was working on in Glasgow . They had at least 9 children: HUGH SMITH born 1871 SAMUEL SMITH born 1873 (Married Mary Jane BIRKETT ) Died 1918 (my direct line) ALEXANDER SMITH born approx 1877 dead by 1883) ALEXANDER SMITH born 1883 died 1893 (accident) MARGARET SMITH born 1875 died 1883 (accident) WILLIAM SMITH born approx 1880 ELIZABETH SMITH born 1888 MARGARET HAMILTON SMITH Born 1886 (married William Charles WILSON) WILLIAMINA SMITH born 1891 (married Harry Hutchison PEAT) died 1948 Mary
