Hi Joy, Not sure what help I'll be, if any, but since you said you had "no clue of information" re the Argyll Johnstons or McPhails, I thought I would throw my 2 cents worth in. I am researching some Johnston(e)s from Argyll (sorry, no Peter, as yet) & there were plenty of them in the parish of Kilberry & Kilcalmonell, Argyll in the 1800s. As for McPhails, my great great grandmother was a Catherine McPhail. She was from Mull & there were plenty McPhails to be found there. Maybe this will give you a place to look. Best of luck! Hi The only Peter's I can find on the index are aged 20 and 60, both are in Greenock, but would not seem to tie in with your date of birth.
