Hi Listers... My wife's GGGGF was James Renwick Montgomery. His father was from Paisley. A group of us where wondering where the name "Renwick" came from (he had named his first born Ewing Renwick) as we have not been able, to date, to find a link to a family Renwick. Would anyone on The List know if there is a place in Scotland by the name of 'Renwick'? Thank you, Dave...

Would anyone on The > List know if there is a place in Scotland by the name of 'Renwick'? ________________ Hi Dave ~ For many years I was so delighted to know that my great grandfather, James BROCKLEBANK, was born in Scotland (Johnstone, Paisley) and married a Scottish lass, Barbara MCCGOWAN, whose mother was Barbara MCAULAY. Great grandfather so loved Scotland (and had the accent to go with his love) that after the Brocklebank and McGowan families emigrated to North Grafton, Massachusetts to run a linen thread business there, he returned many times to visit his beloved Scotland. I always thought my great grandfather was Scottish through and through. Then, through genealogy I learned that the BROCKLEBANKS were from England! At least as far back as I am now: gggg grandfather John Brocklebank from Hawshead in the Lake District. At first I was terribly disappointed. England? Enemy of Scotland? Horrors! Then I read the history of the Lake District (it is north west England, as close to the Scottish border as one can get!) and learned that its original people came from the Norse through Ireland. I am learning more each day and am now quite proud and happy of both the knowledge of my unScottish-sounding Brocklebank. Besides, I still have all that McGowan, McAulay and McLachlan blood in me veins! My point? I think you might do some checking in England for your wife's James Renwick Montgomery, old chap!!! All the best, Jean Brocklebank
