    3. Hi David (and All) Thanks for the note, unfortunately one of the problems with Bugbear is that as shown in this example, it uses a variation of the sender's address picked from the message it chooses to send from the infected PC - there is therefore almost no way to let the real victim know that they have this virus I can assure you that as Bute List Administrator, Query Board & GenWeb Site maintainer I do keep my PC squeaky clean. By the way, on inspection I see that the post below dates from 1999 when I had just started the Renfrew list. Further, I don't have a copy on my current PC, as I have not been involved with the Renfrew List since August 2000 (Nor the Argyll one either). About all that can be said is that the Bugbear victim was subscribed to this list back in its early days. regards Peter -----Original Message----- From: David & Joy Lyle <d.jlyle@net1.nw.com.au> To: cookfmly@bigpond.com <cookfmly@bigpond.com> Date: Thursday, 24 July 2003 07:01 Subject: Re: List Owner Announcement >Dear Peter, >This morning I received 5 messages in my email, 3 message boards, 1 from a >puzzle zone plus yours listed as Subject "Re: List Owner Announcement", >with an attachment called "contacts.pst.pif" > >My Virus checker stated that this was a virus package called "Bugsbear", I >think that was the name. > >I then sent the above email to you via the following address and it bounced > >"Peter Cook" <cookfmly@webexpress.net.au> > >Will you please check your system. > >Regards >David Lyle > >At 08:06 AM 2003-07-24 +1000, you wrote: >>I have opted this list in for a new RootsWeb service, whereby all >>postings to the Renfrew Query Board are, to use the RootsWeb term, >>sent via a "gateway" to this list >> >>For those of you who may wish to sort these messages to a different >>area within your system, note that the first line reads: >>"Posted on: Renfrewshire Scotland Queries" >> >>As with normal List messages, subscribers who wish their reply to go >>only to the Query Board poster, should use their "reply to" option. >>Alternatively click on the link if you want to post an on-line >>response - this will appear on the Query Board and shortly after on >>the list. >>NB replying to the list only, will mean that the original poster to >>the Query Board will not see the message unless they are also a >>subscriber to the list. >> >>Please note that some of the Query Board posts are "ambit" posts ie >>NOT related specifically to Renfrewshire, but never-the-less still >>genuine attempts by frustrated researchers to advance their lines. >> >>As this change will mean an increase in mail to the list, some of >>you may wish to consider switching to Digest mode. >> >>By one of those quirks of fate, the general address for the Query >>Board is at the bottom of the first message to be gatewayed >>"mckinlay/affleck@paisley" >> >>Peter Cook cookfmly@bigpond.com >>List owner and Co-host with Sue <scoop@fan.net.au> of the >>SCT-RENFREW mailing list. >>List owner of the SCT-ARGYLL and ButeshireGenWeb mailing lists >> SNIP
