    1. [Renfrew] BARR George & BROWN Bethia & the "lost" John BARR
    2. Janet Connochie
    3. I have been struggling for years to find my John BARR. He stated on his marriage certificate in 1888 that his parents were John BARR & Mary BROWN (both deceased). He was born ~1867 There is no such birth listed on the IGI (which should include civil registration births up to 1875). The closest match I have come across for him in the 1881 census is- 25 Herriot St Eastwood, Renfrew, Scotland Janet GOVAN / Head/ W/ 45/ F/ P Shaws/ Cotton Weaver Jessie GOVAN/ Daur/ U/ 17/ F/ P Shaws/ Cotton Weaver John BARR/ Nephew/ U/ 14/ M/ Renfrew/ Cotton Twister The family story has it that John had a younger brother, Hugh, who died at a young age (but older than 4 years). I have found the following Hugh BARR, Illegitimate d. 15 Jan 1876 at 25 Herriot St, Pollockshaws aged 7 years son of George Barr (reputed father) & Bethia Brown Informant Janet Govan, Occupier So you can see the connection. Hugh was born 27 Nov 1867, High Street, Renfrew registered as BARR Does anyone have any connections to George BARR & Bethia BROWN? I am wanting to either strengthen my case... or begin to start again. Best wishes Janet Connochie Christchurch, NZ
