That helps a lot Julie, thanks. I had suggested in the question that it might be geographical, so that has now been confirmed, and I'm pleased not to have to dig out a hammer and cold chisel to discover the churches my forebears attended. :-) However I'm wondering if having admitted to being a Sassenach the Jocks are giving me the run around <big grin> I had rather hoped that someone would give me more than a one word answer - for instance which churches were (are) described under the three headings in Renfrew/Paisley (did I mention that in the question?) so that I can identify them on a map. Any help in this direction would be appreciated Cheers Brian
Hi Brian Charles, Ron, Julie et al, Low Church (or Laigh Kirk) was built in 1738 and is currently the Paisley Arts Centre. A photo of it is at the following site: http://www.houston-menswear.co.uk/paisley/sightseeing.htm#Arts High Church, dating from 1750, was built at the highest part of town (geological and geographical!) on Oakshawhead and is now known as the Oakshaw Trinity Parish Church. See photos at: http://www.rpasmith.co.uk/paisley.htm http://www.geocities.com/mjjodoin/irreg.htm Now the Middle Church, I am a little unclear on. It is supposedly somewhere in the middle of town above the Cross of Paisley. Perhaps someone else can offer a more definitive location? Hope this helps - somewhat. Very many thanks for that Lois. I wonder if anyone can do the same for me for Paisley churches?
