    3. Thelma, The Broomielaw was/is a quay on the north bank of the River Clyde near central Glasgow (quite a long way upriver from Renfrew). In my youth it was the quay that serviced the Irish ferries and also the paddle steamers that took day trippers "doon the watter". All the best Jim in sunny Western Australia, the state with the climate Queensland wishes it had! <g> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thelma" <mrbirrell@bigpond.com> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 24, 2003 7:20 PM Subject: [Renfrew] Maltman - Birrell - Crawford > John BIRRELL, one of the Birrell family out of Fife, worked in Glasgow and > d.c.1900. 3. Dear Jim, Many thanks for emailing me about the places our forbears came from. We visited those places in 1995 and just loved the drive up the Clyde, passing through Broomielaw. James BIRRELL of Dunfermline (b.Newcastle on Tyne) left there on the "Cloncurry" for Queensland c.1886. That sounds like you enjoyed a wonderful youth. p.s. Jim, we have wonderful weather here, where we live, on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. We live on the river, where such a lot of activities add the the pleasure... We have been to W.A. three times over many years and it too is a great state, clean and colourful..love it... Thelma New web pages as under.
