    3. Hi Donna, Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories , explanation copy & pasted. Indexes to all surviving registers of wills and testaments before 1801 have been published by the Scottish Record Society. An annual 'Calendar of Confirmations & Inventories' has been prepared by the Commissary Clerk of Edinurgh since 1876. Enquiries about the wills themselves should be made to the Scottish Record Office - you should be able to find information on their website. I understand that these indexes can be accessed through the LDS, but the actual Wills are only available through the SCRO Basically this is the Scottish form of Probate. Tracing Your Scottish Ancestors published by the Scottish Record Office states under Executries since 1876 (para 6.25): "Each entry gives the name and designation of the deceased, the date and place of death, whether testate or intestate, where and when confirmation was granted, the name and designation of the executor and the value of the estate. If the deceased was testate, we are given the date of the will and the court books in which it has been recorded and when. To investigate further, not the name of the sheriff court where confirmation was granted , the date of confirmation, and, if there is a W ill, in which court books and when it was recorded." (The inventory and Will each had to be recorded before confirmation was granted). 'confirmation granted to .......... ' means that the Will was approved and the executors could then got on with the job of sorting out the estate. This is a very basic explanation and you may wish to read further about this. I had a friend went to Mitchell Library researching same name and sent them to me via email. We have some in our local LDS research rooms , Templeview, but they are earlier ones. Hope this helps..
