Hello Jean, Thanks for your reply. For years we carried on with the assumption that the name was actually Watts. We now have death certificates of two of her daughters, one in Edinburgh and one in Argyle, a death certificate for a son from Bracadale,and a marriage of a son from Inverness. All the certificates are in different handwriting and definately are Ivatts. You can see the capital I and then the vatts or vats. I can't believe there are so few people around with this name.I can't find a marriage certificate for James and Emily Stephen. Several of their children were born in India.
