    3. Hi Frank, I know quite a bit more about my Paisley patons now and so I thought I'd update you in case we can make a link. Robert Paton b 1820 remains top of my tree, though having found his death I am waiting to collect enough things I want from Scotlandspeople to go back on again!!. He was a shoemaker. He married Margaret Kerr in 1846 who died before 1873 and maybe long before this. He had three known children Robert b 1850, Margaret 1847 and Annie. Robert junior was blind and a piano tuner. He went on to marry Maggie Allan, and I now know that Robert's maternal aunt Agnes married Maggie's widowed father and brought up his children. At very least therefore Robert married his step cousin. If as family story has it Robert was rejected by his father, who didn't die till 1882, and he was brought up by a maternal aunt, hence adding Kerr to his name, he may have been brought up in the same household as Maggie. Robert put 3 Orchard street, Londonderry as his usual address on his marriage certificate in 1873 and lived at Alexander Terrace, Coleraine when he was the informant for his father-in laws death ( the same person who was his uncle by marriage). Robert and his family were back in Glasgow by 1901 and he died there in 1918. The last son definately born in Ireland was born in Coleraine in 1885. The eldest daughter was born in Paisley, but they may have come back just for the birth as that was not uncommon. So he may have been in Ireland before the marriage and right through till later than 1885 except for visits. All I know about Annie Paton is that she was supposed to be a spinster and to live on the Glasgow Road. My granny was named for her, but no I know of no Dumfries links at all, definately no Kerr ones (yet!). 3. Hi frank, I couldn't resist going on to SP and getting more info. Robert 1820 was born to John Paton shoemaker and Marion Craig. His first wife died before 1856 when Robert married his second wife Annie Blackie McAlpine and had at least six children with her. It looks like the Ann Paton was hers, as well as Jane Munn, John, William McAlpine, Marion and James. Jane married David Harvey. John married twice, once to Catherine Moore and then to Jame Ritchie Pearson who survived him. These two died in Paisley so I could pick them out. The others will have to wait till I can find out more from census data before I can pinpoint them! Somebody will know these folk!
