He stated on his marriage certificate in 1888 that his parents were John BARR & Mary BROWN (both deceased). He was born ~1867 There is no such birth listed on the IGI (which should include civil registration births up to 1875). I have found the following Hugh BARR, Illegitimate d. 15 Jan 1876 at 25 Herriot St, Pollockshaws aged 7 years son of George Barr (reputed father) & Bethia Brown Informant Janet Govan, Occupier So you can see the connection. Hugh was born 27 Nov 1867, High Street, Renfrew registered as BARR Does anyone have any connections to George BARR & Bethia BROWN?
