In case you are not already aware, there is an 1847 Classified Directory online for Paisley, Johnstone and Greenock at the following site: http://www.historicaldirectories.org There doesn't seem to be any easy way to access it, however. You should click on Search, then type in Glasgow Directory (no quotation marks). This then shows Slater's Classified Directory of the following important English towns--no mention of Scotland! Clicking on this will then bring up the Glasgow Directory, and the Paisley, Johnstone and Greenock Directories follow at the end. I have not found any easy way to find a particular page you are looking for other than to go page-by-page until you reach the required one. Note, keying in a surname does not bring up all the references to that particular name. If you've got the patience to go through it, however, it could be very worthwhile. I certainly found it so.
