I am new to the mailing list and to research in Scotland. I have the marriage record of my gggrandparents dated October of 1841 and it gives a street address for both of them. I'm assuming that the 1841 Census films are available for Paisley at the FHC. As I don't know exactly how big a task searching for them with their names and street name would be, would someone on the list advise me please. Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

Thanks so much to Jean and Jim for their replies. I'm afraid in my haste to ask about the 1841 census, I forgot to mention my family names. My gggrandparents were David Graham and Margaret Whyte. They were married in Paisley on October 25, 1841 and immigrated to the New York in 1865 with their children Henry, *Margaret, Jane, John, Joanna and May. *Margaret Graham is my ggrandmother and the only one that I have any information on. I am hoping that the 1841 census will verify that all of these children belong to the same David Graham and Margaret Whyte as I have only found birth records in Scotland and have never found them all living together. Thanks again for your help and any suggestions would be greatly accepted. I have been a reseacher for over ten years but have not done anything in Scotland so I am definitely lost. Hi Kathy, I think you could be in luck having street names. There is a street index for the larger towns for each of the census years. Here are some of the films re the FHL catalog: Title Census of 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 : an index to streets of the larger cities of Scotland Authors Scotland. Census Office (Main Author) Note Location Film 1841 Census 1851 Census FHL BRITISH Film 104115 1861 Census FHL BRITISH Film 104116 1871 Census FHL BRITISH Film 104117 Hope this helps. Hi Kathy I'll try and help just in case no one has answered you. Unfortunately I don't believe that Paisley is included in the 1841 Street Index. You'll notice that the 1841 census films below have E.Ds -Enumeration Districts. This is the information needed to choose the right film which is obtained from the Street Index. You could go thru the films if that's the only way to do it,because there are actually only two films covering Paisley. The other two are refilms of the same area. That doesn't mean that the first two are no good. My advice is to order both films and find the Streets that you're looking for and so find the people you're looking for. Matching the street to the correct film is always a problem if you can't cross check using the Street Index. 1841 E.D. 1-42 FHL BRITISH Film 1042727 1841 E.D. 43-57 FHL BRITISH Film 1042728 1841 E.D. 1-43 (another filming) VAULT BRITISH Film 101919 1841 E.D. 44-57 (another filming) VAULT BRITISH Film 101920 -- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy" <kathyshouse@mindspring.com> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2003 1:04 AM Subject: [Renfrew] 1841 Census Search > I am new to the mailing list and to research in Scotland.
