    3. I must apologise for my remarks recently. I meant no offence to anybody. These message boards are here for others to help each other find their ancestors. I am afraid my blood boiled a little when someone, in my opinion, was advertising for business on this message board and not offering any free advise to those who may have been interested. In the past five years I have freely given of my time and effort to assist others build up some extensive family trees and I take offence when some on these boards want payment. If that is an offence then so be it. To the person concerned I also apologise but again this, and other boards, are here for others to "freely" help each other and not openly drum up business. David Lyle (no Joy involved)

I meant no offence to anybody. Thank you David, that was the right thing to do. I do think that it wouldn't be a bad idea for John Mark to obtain a secondary e-mail address for these lists and for you to go spend a couple of hours in a cancer ward. There are much larger problems than someone trying to drum up business. Now would someone please go find any records of my Mills clan in Scotland? So far, 2 researchers in Scotland can not find a single record John Mills Sr. born 1788 Mary Miller his wife born 1797 (Mary is sometimes known as Mary Miller Arthur so I am not sure of her real last name} Thomas born Dec 26,1819 Edinburgh Arthur born June 30, 1835 Paisley Jane born Feb 16, 1818 Mary Arthur born Jan, 1829 Paisley Catherine born 1816 Agnes born 1824 John Jr. born 1821 It would seem that there must be some record of some sort in Scotland of some of these people. They all are listed as members of the Church Of Scotland Thanks, Jim by the way, SUBJECT CLOSED

    3. David, Good on ya! A quick apology re-admits light and sheds heat. Jim, Juanita and Betty, English is the language that both unites us, and divides us. In an international forum such as this we need to be sensitive to the fact that the same words and expressions may have different meanings in different cultures. So we need to take care what we say to avoid giving offence. Equally we shouldn't be quick to take offence at something written by someone from elsewhere. As I said, how about a little give and take? Mark, alias John M., I don't think anyone wants you to leave, but you must be aware that your reply to me does little to dispel the impression many listers may have formed. I'm not sure why you used the subject line "Congratulations on scoring an own goal!" - did I? You claim to "own" two lists on Rootsweb. Perhaps you meant you are the List Administrator for those two? In that case you should be familiar with Rootsweb's List policy on advertising. Your signature line(s) could easily be interpreted as being in breach. The suggestion by Jim (the other one) that you obtain another e-mail address for List stuff seems a sensible one. Your statement that you have neither the time, nor can you be bothered to remove the offending signature hardly shows a concern for your fellow listers. We are all busy people too, but if we can manage to snip messages and try to abide by policies that are designed for the good of us all, then I'm sure with a bit of will that you can too. If you are indeed a List Admin then I'm sure you are aware of the benefits of leading by example. The above few sentences are intended simply to make you aware that you have created an impression amongst some of us that may be quite erroneous. We look forward to receiving the benefit of your expertise and to your positive contributions to this list. Now, how about we get back to the business that we're here for, family history, and try to be considerate of each other, please? All the best Jim in mild and sunny Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: "David & Joy Lyle" <d.jlyle@net1.nw.com.au> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 19, 2003 6:52 AM Subject: [Renfrew] Apologies > I must apologise for my remarks recently.
