Jeanette, Just to be strictly accurate the partition of Ireland into the Irish Free State and Northern Ireland took place with a treaty in 1921. The Irish Free State had dominion status (like Canada). The Four Courts fire was in June 1922 and was during the civil war that followed the partition of Ireland. You need to remember that the country was only divided into Northern Ireland and the Irish republic after this date so up until 1922 the whole country came under British jurisdiction.
