    3. Jim, I'm no expert but I'd imagine it's going to be hard to get 'proof' of anything as early as that unless your ancestor was tied to some estate or other organisation with its own documentation. I wonder if the Huddersfield Family History Society or any other Yorkshire branch might be able to help you find parish records of William's first marriage to Elizabeth, in the hope that there might be something more for you to go on. Why, for example, does the IGI give Paisley as his origin? Was that on the parish record and is that why, as you say, 'most people' accept that he came from Renfrewshire rather than Lanarkshire, Caithness or anywhere else in Scotland - or England for that matter? Maybe a local family history branch could also point you in the direction of records suggesting why a Scotsman should end up in the Huddersfield area at that particular time in the eighteenth century. Maybe you've already tried these options but, if not, they may be worthwhile. 1. Re: [Renfrew] My William Black - Paisley-Huddersfield connection
    2. Katie de Haan
    3. Jim, Just a thought and maybe way out, but you never know. Earlier, I mentioned the topic of possible connections between Paisley and the Huddersfield area. I wonder whether wool, weaving and clothing craft and trade might not be a connection, leading to traffic between the two areas and ultimately a marriage between a William BLACK from Paisley and an Elizabeth STOCKS from the Huddersfield area. Interesting to note that, according to the IGI, William's second wife hailed from Paisley as well. Hope you get there in the end, Katie de Haan The Netherlands MCVEAN SINCLAIR MCKELLAR CLARK Argyll, Renfrew, Lanarkshire Scotland MCCALLUM MUNRO BEATON BETHUNE Sutherland, Ross & Cromarty, Lanarkshire Scotland MCCCALLUM Perthshire pre 1780 KING PALMER LANGSTONE CARR HUTT Oxon/Berks UK KING JACKSON WEEDON Middlesex/London City/East End UK ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2006 8:57 PM Subject: [Renfrew] My William Black was born between 1720 and 1735, but Where In Scotland? >I am having a lot of difficulty finding PROOF concerning my ancestor's, > (William Black) birthplace in Scotland. Here are the leads I have so far > for the birth or baptism of my ancestor:: > 1. born 1727 Paisley (I cannot find records, and most accept this as his > birthdate and location of birth, without documentation)

    3. Hi Jim Have you looked at naming patterns of the children of William and his first wife Elizabeth. They might give you some clue as to who his parents were and Elizabeth's parents.
