Hello Mary, Sorry for the delay, to a question....Which you may have figured out already. Go to Ancestry.com, Ancestry.co.uk will do also. If you are registered log in. If not, go for the this database which is free until the end of November at no charge. If you don't open and get the large announcement of the new Immigration database, go to Home and you will find it there. When you find it, you will be asked for such things as name, approximate age, year of arrival, dates of arrival and departure, etc. I was interested in what might have happened to my grandmother's youngest brother. I knew he was born in 1888, in Paisley, Scotland, and was married in Toronto in 1921 to Elisabeth Smith. He seemed to disappear after that. So I thought I'd try immigration records, While there are many George Moir's I skipped over the ports of New York, etc., because I knew he would be coming from Canada. I found him in the Detroit crossing. Now I was lucky, because it noted his country of origin as Paisley Scotland. (though Paisley was misspelled.) The small "manifest" gave a great deal of information, e.g., he was traveling on his own, going to see a brother in law, his street address in Toronto, which was the family home, etc. All U.S. federal Census records were open and free, so I checked there, but failed to find him, so he either returned to Canada or Scotland. I don't believe they are available free now. However, they are available free at any LDS Family history center. If anything isn't too clear or I can be of additional help, please do not hesitate to respond. All the best. Don Wilson formerly Oakville, Ontario
