    3. I have found information on the birthplaces of a number of Cochran ancestors who are listed as born in Rentfrew, Scotland. Since several were born in Paisley, I assume that "Rentfrew" is a spelling of Renfrew. Others are listed as born in Fernois, Rentfrew. I wonder if this a town or a farm name. The time period is up to 1432 for births in Paisley, and for births in Fernois beginning in 1460 and continuing until 1550. My ancestors (John Cochran, b. 1550, Fernois, Renfrew, d. 1613, Foughen) then moved to Foughen, Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland, with the first birth in Ireland in 1576. Members of the family moved to North America by 1752, to Carrollton Manor plantation in Adams County, Pennsylvania. My most recent Cochran ancestor was General John B. Cochran, b. 19 Sept 1781 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. His daughter, Tamer Cochran Gilbert, was my gg grandmother. I would like to know more about the Cochrans' reasons for leaving Scotland. Are there historical materials about Renfrewshire in that period that would be of help? Much of the early information I have is from an internet source on the descendants of Waldenus DeCochran that another American Cochran descendant directed me to. Is there other information available on the Cochran family in Renfrew? Are there Cochrans in the area now who descend from the same family? I would appreciate any information SKS (Some Kind Soul) could send my way. Thank you, Lucille Woolis Andersen
