Hello Irene, Thank you for your welcome information on church burials . The fact that there was not a headstone erected in many cases leads me to think that there may have been a burial plan of the churchyard for the sextons to follow otherwise it may have been chaos ?. I have two great uncles who left estates in 1878/9 of over 3000 pounds & 791 pounds respectively who do not appear to have gravestones in Neilston so it must not only be a financial choice. All the best , John Carswell Australia. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2006 12:51 AM Subject: Re: [SCT-RENFREW] Renfrewshire Burial Customs > > In a message dated 15/10/2006 21:56:20 GMT Daylight Time, > [email protected] writes: > > Could anyone shed some light on the burial customs on the 1700 & 1800's > in > Renfrewshire. hi just posting to see if anyone is researching the Pattison/sharp family from Lochwinnoch thanks Michele __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
Shell, My3Xggrandfather was James Maxwell Sharp, born Lochwinnoch 1819, father William Sharp, mother Sarah Maxwell. William may have been born in Ireland or Neilston. His father, according to death cert, was Peter Sharp and his mother Mary Boyd although these names were not carried on, as was the usual custom. James Maxwell S was obviously named after his maternal grandfather. If you think there is a connection let me know. regards Johan Lochridge ----- Original Message ---- From: Shell Leo <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, 20 October, 2006 8:53:34 PM Subject: [SCT-RENFREW] Sharp/Pattison from Lochwinnoch hi just posting to see if anyone is researching the Pattison/sharp family from Lochwinnoch thanks Michele
