    3. My Grandma worked in a spinning mill in Paisley also, although I don't know the name of it. Her sisters probably worked there too. Does anyone know if there is more than one mill operating aroung 1900 ----- Original Message ----- From: <darkwing@shaw.ca> To: <sct-renfrew@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 11:38 AM Subject: Re: [SCT-RENFREW] [Renfrew] Coats & Clarks > My Grandmother, some of her sisters and her Father all worked in the > Coats mill. 3. Hi Margaret et al, Around 1900, the big mills operating in Paisley were the Anchor Mills (of the Clark family) and Ferguslie Mills (of the Coats family). There were almost certainly other smaller cotton mills in the town, but these 2 were the biggies. In addition, there was a whole range of specialist support businesses offering additional process capacity for dyeing, bleaching, finishing, spool-making etc as well as indirect support in engineering, tool making etc. Paisley Library can almost certainly supply information on Coats' and Clark's smaller competitors.
