Dear List Members, I have recently joined this list in the hope that someone may be able to help me. I have a death certificate for a David SIMPSON who died in Renfrew in 1866. The details are as follows: David Simpson, Bricklayer, Single Died 2nd March 1866, 21 Meadowside Street Renfrew Aged 64 Father: James Simpson, Bricklayer, deceased Mother: Nancy Simpson m.s. Russell, deceased Informant: Robert Bancher?? Occupier I am looking for a David SIMPSON who was born about 1802 in Ireland. This David SIMPSON would also have been a bricklayer. He is listed in the 1861 census living with his son John at 269 St Georges Rd in Glasgow. His occupation was given as retired builder. John SIMPSON his son was also a bricklayer by trade. His occupation was given as builder. As well as John's wife and children there was also a son/brother James whose occupation was given as bricklayer. David SIMPSON's wife was Elizabeth BACON. I have concluded that David was a widower as his wife was not living with the family in Glasgow. By 1863 the family were living in Partick in Glasgow. About the same time as David SIMPSON died in Renfrew, the wife and children of John SIMPSON arrived in New Zealand so if this is the correct David SIMPSON then this may explain the informant. I would like to be able to determine if the David SIMPSON for whom I have a death certificate is the same David SIMPSON that I have found in the 1861 census. I am wondering if perhaps the surname of the informant on the death certificate should have been BACON. Any information that may either prove or disprove the theory that these two David SIMPSONS are one and the same would be appreciated. Would there be any directories of Renfrew that would indicate who was living at the above address in 1866. Where would David SIMPSON most likely be buried and is there likely to be a record of this event. Any help or suggestions for avenues for research would be appreciated. Regards, Christine
